WINTER LEAD CLIMBING

So, you’re ready to become an independent winter climber. What an amazing place to be!

This course will enable you to start tackling winter climbs with peers. The course will aim to include all the hard skills involved in winter lead climbing, placing gear, ice screws, ice threads, bull dogs, warthogs, building belays, climbing movement and techniques We will also aim to cover some of the ‘bigger picture’ information, decision making about climbing conditions, avalanche awareness, route choices, interpreting guidebooks, abseiling and backing off routes. All this whilst having a qualified and enthusiastic instructor by your side to help keep you safe and help with decision making.

It is normal to have some prior winter climbing experience before attending this course. It is ideal if you climbed up to grade 3 or above in the past. It really helps if you can lead climb in summer but this is not necessarily essential. Best to simply get in touch and we can chat through your experience, aims and goals to make a plan for learning to lead climb.
