LEARN TO LEAD CLIMB

This course is designed for people who have a good base knowledge of outdoor rock climbing and have seconded routes of grade severe or more. It will build on your skills with the aim of getting you lead climbing, placing your own protection, safeguarding yourself and your climbing partner.

The ultimate in climbing freedom, being completely self-sufficient. This course will take your climbing knowledge and build on it with a goal of you leading your first climbs, helping you to prepare yourself for your future climbing adventures.

Duration Between 1-5 days

Ratio 1:1 or 1:2

Cost 1:1 - £250 per day for 1 person, 1:2 - £135 per day per person

There is a lot to cover before you do your first lead climb. Placing gear, equalizing gear, building belays, belaying a lead climber, holding falls, and so on. Yes that’s right at some point, in a controlled environment, you’ll possibly be jumping off a climb to ensure you are happy with what happens but more importantly the person holding your rope understands what happens. You want to know that you can control your rope properly in case your climbing partner slips off unexpectedly. That said, everything with lead climbing will be done at your pace. Sometimes people lead several climbs on this course, some people don’t lead one and both are absolutely fine.

People who book this course normally do so as a pair, two friends that already climb together and are looking to lead climb.

A 2 day course is a good introduction and for some people this is enough time to be happy to try lead climbing and continue lead climbing after the course. However we strongly recommend a 5 day course due to the amount of content there is to cover on lead climbing. Over 5 days we can make sure you are skilled and mentally ready to take on your first lead climbs.
